**All Saints Marsh Academy’s Epic School Trip: Learning, Exploration, and Fun**
Students from All Saints Marsh, Dunsford, Darington, Thurlestone, West Alvington and Charleton Academy, all part of the Learning Academy Trust, recently embarked on what can only be described as THE BEST SCHOOL TRIP EVER! The adventure included 124 students, 20 staff members, 14,000 steps, an 8.5km journey, three major attractions, two modes of transport, and one incredible city.
The day began with a visit to the Mayflower Museum, where the children learned fascinating historical facts. “Did you know that more than 30 million people can trace their ancestry to the 102 passengers and approximately 30 crew aboard the Mayflower when it landed in Plymouth Bay, Massachusetts, in 1620?” This amazing statistic captivated the students’ imaginations and connected them to a pivotal moment in history.
Next, at The Box, the students explored Plymouth’s rich and varied history. They met Mildred, a mammoth, and discovered the crucial role of plankton in our oceans. The exhibit was a blend of science, art, and history, bringing learning to life in an engaging way. The children particularly enjoyed sculpture-making activities, where they explored the microscopic world and the significance of plankton in our lives.
The trip also included the National Marine Aquarium, where students learned about the diverse species inhabiting our oceans and the importance of ocean conservation. They were thrilled to meet a turtle named Friday, adding a memorable highlight to their visit.
Headteacher of All Saints Marsh C of E Academy, Mr Liam O’Sullivan shared his excitement about the trip, saying, “Today we opened our children’s eyes to city life, exploring museums and aquariums, enjoying lunch in a restaurant, and experiencing future career possibilities they never knew possible. You cannot be what you cannot see. This trip was a fantastic opportunity for our students to broaden their horizons and inspire their futures.”
Throughout the day, the children shared their experiences with friends from across the Trust creating lasting memories and strengthening friendships.
The trip was a testament to the Trust’s commitment to providing enriching and diverse learning experiences beyond the classroom. All Saints Marsh Academy continues to ensure that its students are exposed to a wide range of educational opportunities, helping them to flourish and dream big.
