All Saints Marsh C of E Academy has a ball at local cricket club
Ahead of the upcoming cricket season, pupils at All Saints Marsh Church of England Academy, which is part of the Learning Academy Partnership (LAP), have enjoyed participating in a wide range of activities at a locally held Cricket Skills Festival.
The Skills Festival was hosted by Devon Cricket at the grounds in South Devon Cricket Club, bringing together over 160 Year 1 and 2 pupils from across the local area. The pupils took part in a carousel of activities, giving them the chance to learn the sport’s core skills and make friends with children in other local schools.
The workshop provided a fun introduction to the sport, allowing children to enjoy their new cricket skills together whilst making the most of using the sporting facilities at South Devon Cricket Club.
The Skills Festival equipped the children at All Saints Marsh Church of England Academy with the enthusiasm and skills necessary to enjoy playing cricket throughout the summer and beyond.
Miss Harris, Year 1 and 2 Class Teacher at All Saints Marsh Church of England Academy, said:
“The children enjoyed a fantastic afternoon participating in the cricket festival. They were able to learn some of the key skills needed to play cricket, as well as have fun and meet new children from some of the other schools in our local area.”
Mrs Semmens, Interim Headteacher at All Saints Marsh Church of England Academy said:
“Thank you to Devon Cricket for organising such a wonderful event at the South Devon Cricket Club. A special thank you to the young leaders of Newton Abbot College who supervised and ensured that the children had the best experience.
“Providing our pupils with the chance to try as many new activities as possible and gain a wide variety of skills is a crucial part of our educational goals at All Saints Marsh Church of England Academy.”
“Our children demonstrated our school values of courage and perseverance by rising to the challenge of learning new sporting skills. Who knows – we could be creating the next cricket superstar to follow in Heather Knight’s or Jonny Bairstow’s footsteps.”
