All Saints Marsh’s Inspiring Artists

Pupils in Year 5 and 6 from All Saints Marsh C of E Academy in Newton Abbot, part of the Learning Academy Partnership, have been busy studying the great artists Picasso, Van Gogh and Kandinsky in their art lessons since returning to school after the school closures.  The children have been spreading their talents to brighten up the local community by sharing artwork that has been displayed locally bringing a smile to Newton Abbot residents.

The pupils enjoyed interpreting the artists’ work, using the vibrant colour, shapes and textures. Taking inspiration from  Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘moving images’, they came up with their own interpretations of the environment and the things in them, such as the sun and the sky. Picasso’s cubism influenced the pupils to create their own portraits and Kandinsky’s abstract work and intense colours reflected in the pupils’ interpretation of spirits and inner beauty. Year 5 pupil Isobel said; “My favourite was Picasso because of the wonky faces. I liked that we didn’t have to make our portraits perfect and we could explore with colour and shape and have fun with it.”

Mrs Edwards, Head of Academy at All Saints Marsh, said:

“We are all so proud of the amazing artwork that Templar class produced and wanted to share it with the local community. For some of our pupils getting back to school after 8 weeks was an opportunity to yet again experience a creative curriculum and nurture their artistic talents, Across our Trust we want to inspire artists of the future and these creative opportunities are just as important as the high quality academic curriculum that children receive.”

The Learning Academy Partnership provides a first-class education to its pupils across the South West, and has done so since it was founded almost 10 years ago. The Trust is rated the best Multi Academy Trust in the country for the performance of disadvantaged children and in the Top 10 Trusts nationally for the progress that children make.

The budding artists have enjoyed providing Easter themed display work for the Avenue Church, St Paul’s Church, Newton Abbot Library, Tesco and the local Doctor surgeries. If you would like to involve the pupils in brightening up your local notice boards, offices or publications, please do get in contact with All Saints Marsh C of E Academy on  01626 365293 or allsaints@lapsw.org
